Meet the Makers : Zooguu
Meet Zooguu!
Maker: Jen GubiczaLocated: Nahant, MA
Zooguu designs and creates high quality, handmade decor for people of all ages. The faux taxidermy wall art is a contemporary and humorous take on the classic hunting trophy. No actual (or stuffed!) animals were harmed in the making.
How did your business get started? I was a graphic designer, and started hand sewing creatures as a hobby to take a break from the computer screen. When Etsy started, I opened a shop & started selling there. Things took off, and I started selling at craft shows on the weekends. In 2008, I made the decision to leave my design job and focus on Zooguu full time.
What is your favorite thing about owning your own creative business? I love being able to make what I want to see in the world, and be received by an audience that loves what I do. It's a lot of work, but it is fulfilling work, and I wouldn't want to do anything else.
What inspires you? Cute things. Animals. Monsters. Color. Nature. Laughter.
How would you classify your style? Modern, colorful, humorous.
Dream travel destination: Japan
What are you currently reading, watching or listening to: Current podcast is My Favorite Murder, which has led me down a rabbit hole of related TV and books that have been mentioned on the show. I also love playing D&D, so I make sure to watch/listen to while sewing Critical Role every week.
